CRYSTAL SPRINGS CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING COURSE UPDATE FROM BHCIA
Recently, there has been an abundance of incorrect information posted on various social media platforms regarding the role that the BHCIA board has taken in regards to the cross-country running events, which take place on the watershed behind Hallmark Park. Our goal is to provide the Belmont Heights neighborhood a clear and correct understanding of the board’s position in this matter.
First, and foremost, we want to make it clear that the position of the board has always been, from the very beginning, to keep the running course open, not only to the runners, but for the entire community. This has been the position of the board when it was first announced by the College of San Mateo that they intended to transition away from the management of this course, back in April of 2020. This has remained the position of the board during its interactions with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, the College of San Mateo, CCS Super League, the Peninsula Athletic League and the Belmont City Council. This will continue to be our position going forward because we understand the importance of the use of this area for the various organizations that utilize the watershed for cross-country events, for the larger Belmont community and especially for the Belmont Heights neighborhood. At no point has the board ever advocated or supported the closure of the course.
As there are traffic, parking and safety impacts to many neighbors, we have been and will continue to work with the various organizations who are involved in the operations of this course. The intent is to find solutions that will respect the needs and interests of all parties.
We will continue to update neighbors on a regular basis regarding these discussions. As always, we welcome feedback and suggestions from all Belmont Heights residents. If you would like to provide input on this, or any other matter, please contact us at bhcia.email@gmail.com.
